To get qualified to win, simply let us know what your favorite barbecue meal is by posting a comment below or on our Facebook fan page. It can be as simple as grilled chicken or burgers, or as complex as smoked crown roast or seared prime rib. The type of recipe has no bearing on your chance of winning, we just want to get you into summer grilling mindset.

To get the creative juices flowing, we’ll start things off by naming a recipe created by our friend Larry Gaian from The BBQ Grail. MOINK Balls are smoked bacon-wrapped meatballs (Moo + Oink = MOINK). We love Larry’s recipe so much that we even included in our book BBQ Makes Everything Better, and you can bet that we’ll be celebrating World MOINK Ball Day on June 5th by cooking up a fresh batch of these tasty morsels of meat!

Bacon Explosion Double Ups the Double Down

Filed under: Bacon, Bacon Explosion, Cheese, Chicken, Double Down, General, KFC — Jason @ 5:13 pm May 18, 2010

Kentucky Fried ChickenSince KFC released their Double Down sandwich, I’ve had a hankering to sample the sandwich that’s proclaimed to be “so meaty, there’s no room for a bun!” Sporting two thick and juicy boneless white meat chicken filets, two pieces of bacon, two melted slices of Monterey Jack and pepper jack cheese and Colonel’s Sauce, I have high hopes that this meal will fit nicely into my meatatarian lifestyle!

As I first laid eyes upon this glorious progression in the evolution of sandwiches, I was extremely pleased to see every advertised ingredient bursting from sides of the Double Down. The ends of crispy bacon strips were peeking out from underneath slightly melted squares of cheese while the Colonel’s Sauce was seductively tempting me to take the first bite.

Double Down

But before diving in, I decided to crack open this chicken-sandwich-of-doom to see what kind of bacony goodness lay waiting inside. To my surprise, what I found were the two most tiny and putrid looking pieces of pork belly I had ever seen. Each strip was three inches long, a half inch wide at best, and thin enough to see through. Combined, these two strips didn’t even cover a quarter of the fried chicken breast they lay upon.

Double Down

Around my house pork reigns supreme and never takes a backseat to chicken. So I did what any true BBQ Addict would do, and added a hot slice of Bacon Explosion to the middle of my Double Down sandwich to give it the true bacon kick that it was missing. And of course it was glazed with our Burnt Finger BBQ Private Stock Barbecue Sauce to enhance the mayo-based Colonel Sauce that was thoroughly caked on.

Double Down

I quickly reassembled the Double Down by capping the Bacon Explosion slice with the two bacon strips, the second fried chicken breast and eagerly took my first bite.

Double Down

Double Down

As expected, the Doubled Up Double Down was gloriously delicious! The smoky flavor of the Bacon Explosion was the perfect compliment to the crispy fried chicken, and it gave the sandwich the big bold bacon flavor that it deserves. And before you ask…yes, I ate the whole thing!!!

Food PhotographyLast weekend we spent Saturday afternoon out at a local barbecue supply store offering up Bacon Explosion samples to the hoards of people loading up brand new grills and smokers for this year’s barbecue season. Next to us was a gentleman churning out wood fired pizzas on a trusty Big Green Egg. It didn’t take long before we sent over a couple hand fulls of Bacon Explosion and a bottle of Burnt Finger BBQ sauce. The results were GLORIOUS!!!

Opening Day Tailgating With Bacon Explosion

Filed under: BBQ, Bacon Explosion, General, tailgate — Jason @ 2:57 pm April 12, 2010

Every so often we like to take a day off work and relax with friends and family. This time around we headed out to Kauffman Stadium to celebrate Opening Day with the Kansas City Royals. In true BBQ Addicts style, we loaded up the Weber Kettle for some recreational pre-game Bacon Explosion tailgating in the parking lot. As we were sitting around the grill sipping on some Iron City Brew, an anchorman from a local news station caught a whiff of sizzling bacon in the air and wandered over with his camera man to investigate.

The actual interview lasted significantly longer than what made air, and both the camera man and anchor also indulged in a sandwich before continuing on their journey across the parking lot. Our footage kicks in at the 1:10 mark, so keep your eyes peeled for the Bacon Explosion. Oh…and you may have a hard time finding the standard Bacon Explosion in this video. That’s because we were using opening day to taste test the brand new line of Bacon Explosion products that will be hitting our site in the near future. I’ll give you a hint…EVERYTHING on our grill is Bacon Explosion. Enjoy!

The Bacon Boom Is Sizzling

Filed under: Bacon, Bacon Explosion, General, press — Aaron @ 4:59 pm April 7, 2010

BACONThe “Periclean Age of Bacon” has arrived. Last night bacon was featured on ABC’s Nightline, and of course there can’t be a story about bacon without the Bacon Explosion being involved. We got a brief mention and a taste test from Josh Ozersky, who seems a bit hardcore about his bacon (even though he wrote a book on hamburgers). Apparently he thinks two pounds of bacon isn’t enough when there is a different kind of pork near it, but to each his own. Interesting piece all around with the main point being BACON IS HERE TO STAY!

(Please be patient, it takes a minute for ABC to load their video player)

So whether it’s everyday items like Bacon Bandages, Bacon Salt, Bacon Air Fresheners, and Baconnaise (all of which we actually own and use), or if it’s the more over-the-top stuff like Bacon Lip Balm, Bacon Dental Floss, and Bacon Mints (not sure about those three), stock up on your bacon stuff now. If you want to read all you need to know about bacon, be sure to buy Bacon: A Love Story from our friend Heather Lauer over at Bacon Unwrapped.

Of course you need to buy a Bacon Explosion for your bacon collection to be complete!Similar Posts:

The Ultimate Super Bowl Food: Bacon Explosion

Filed under: Bacon Explosion, Eating Challenge, General, Jersey Shore, Snooki, Super Bowl, The Situation — Jason @ 4:00 pm January 26, 2010

The Original Bacon ExplosionThe big game calls for a big meal, and that’s exactly why we’re giving you a heads up on the last day to place your Bacon Explosion order and still have it delivered in time for a Super Bowl feast.

But before we talk business, we recently received an email from a few Bacon Explosion fans in Northern Jersey who were putting together a Bacon Explosion eating challenge, complete with a photographer to capture all the porky details. From the second we received the email, we had our fingers crossed that the pics would reveal snapshots of Snooki and “The Situation” going head-to-head in a bacon-sausage throwdown. Although the Jersey Shore dreams didn’t quite pan out, we did receive some great images of a true Bacon Explosion fan giving his all to prove his friends wrong.

Congrats to JJ Strothers and his valiant effort to eat an entire Bacon Explosion in 45 minutes. He didn’t quite make it, but he’s in good company because to date we have not witnessed anyone who can muscle through the brick wall that hits at 3/4’s the way through. Special thanks to Justin DuBois and Jennifer Spisso for crafting a mighty fine looking Bacon Explosion, and to Nicholas Savioli for capturing the whole thing on film.

Do you know somebody that could consume an entire Bacon Explosion in one sitting? We highly doubt it, but we’d love to know if someone’s willing to try. Hit us up on the contact form and we’ll let you know where to send pics for a future blog post.

Now back to the shipping deadlines. In order to have Bacon Explosion delivered to your doorstep using our standard shipping rates in time for the Super Bowl, you MUST have your order placed by 1:00 pm Central Time on Tuesday, February 2nd. Expedited overnight shipping options will be available for you procrastinators, but that service does carry a surcharge beyond our standard shipping fees and will be handled by special request only. Please use our contact form to inquire about expedited shipping rates.

As always, each Bacon Explosion order will be shipped in a large, re-usable, Styrofoam cooler packed with dry ice to keep your meat cool throughout its journey. Sauce and rub orders ship separately from the Bacon Explosion packages, and will be delivered via USPS Priority Mail. Once again, please use the contact form to inquire about expedited shipping rates.

Added Bonus: We’re going to give away some free stuff just for your Super Bowl party. We’ll have two lucky winners; one will receive an original Bacon Explosion delivered to their doorstep, and one will receive a bottle of our Burnt Finger BBQ rub and sauce. To enter, simply join our BBQ Addicts Facebook Fan Page, or post this on twitter and leave a comment that you did so and you could win the ultimate Super Bowl food for the ultimate Super Bowl party! We’ll pick a winner this Thursday evening so you can start the party planning!

UPDATE:
Thanks to everyone who entered! We used random.org to blindly pick our winners, and those lucky people are…..

Bacon Explosion – Tracy Simmons
